What a Garage Door With a Door Actually Is
A garage door with a door built in is exactly what it sounds like. One section of the overhead door carries a separate hinged leaf, usually called a pedestrian door, a wicket door, a walk-through door or a man door. You push it open, step through, and the main door never moves. On a cold morning when you just want to reach the recycling bin, that saves you a full open-and-close cycle on the operator.
The term covers a few different builds. Some are framed glass garage doors where the leaf is glazed to match the surrounding panels. Others are solid sectional doors with a small insulated leaf cut into the bottom or second section. A garage door with a pass through door shows up on villas, cafes, showrooms, car dealerships and gyms, anywhere staff or residents move in and out on foot all day and the vehicle opening is overkill.

What to Check Before You Buy
Four things separate a pedestrian door that works for a decade from one that becomes a service call.
Opener Interlock
The operator must not run while the walk-through leaf is open. Ask how the interlock is wired and what happens if someone holds the remote while the leaf stands open. A cutoff switch or sensing circuit is the usual answer.
Threshold Height
The bottom of the leaf sits at the door's bottom rail, which is not the slab. A raised threshold trips people and blocks a cart or wheelchair. Measure the step-over before you sign off on the drawing.
Section Strength
Cutting a leaf into a section removes material. The section needs reinforcement, and the panel layout has to keep the hinges and rollers working. Ask for the reinforcement detail, not just a rendering.
Leaf Hardware
Hinges, a closer, a lock and a handle all live on a moving panel. Cheap hardware on a heavy leaf sags within a season. Ask what grade of hinge and cylinder the supplier fits as standard.

On a sectional door, the pedestrian leaf is a hinged panel built into one section, usually the bottom or the one above it. It swings on its own hinges while the main door stays parked at the ceiling. The main door still runs as a normal sectional, folding panel over panel on its tracks. On a door that coils overhead, the leaf is trickier, because the curtain rolls, so most suppliers fit the leaf into a fixed frame beside the coil rather than through it. Either way the leaf can be glazed to match the rest of the door or built solid and insulated.
When you order, the supplier needs the rough opening size, the direction the leaf swings, the threshold you want, the glass, the finish and the operator. That last one matters more than the frame color, because the interlock wiring depends on which operator you pick. Ask for the drawing before production, check where the reinforcement lands, and confirm the step-over height.
